Beginning string students are working on their bow holds and drawing smooth, long bows across each string. Ask your child to show you how to hold the bow! Here are the tips I've given your children:
1. Flop the wrist (wrist should always be higher than the fingers)
2. Put thumb on the stick at the end of the grip and beginning of the frog
3. Line up stick with first knuckle joint
4. For violin, viola and bass- pronate (hand angles toward tip of bow)
-when pronating, violin and viola students should have their pinky go on top of the bow
Advanced string students are working really hard on their concert songs for our Winter Concert on Wednesday, January 24th! By the beginning of January, your children should be able to play through all three concert songs without stopping. Ask for a performance this break!
I hope you all have a wonderful winter break with family and friends and I'll see you next year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Stanek
PS- I've updated the Instrument Care link to show violin, viola, cello and bass posture tutorials. Take a look.
